Bionik Phunk

20 years after House music was born, was also the time when I started to get involved into something that was hopefully to become a DJ career. It says In the beginning there was House... , but it wasn't really for me when I started buying my first vinyl in 1979, to be honest. At that time, when I wasn't sure what would be the style I like most and when I was too young to understand what kind of music would influence me for my future, I was buying stuff like The Specials, Kraftwerk or Depeche Mode, to name just a few ! My musical passion began when disco days were over its peak and the breakthrough of electronical music was already in the beginning stages. Funny enough was the fact that apart from this development I began to play public with Ska and Trojan Reggae music in 1983, when mixing was quite a different thing from what it means today. But all of that has done its effect on me and I do benefit from it in my DJ-sets, my productions and remixes!

In 1991 it has led me to a massive change, when the underground phenomenon of House and Techno in Germany took hold of me and I could not resist to be one of the first ones in my hometown to really get involved into that. As a result of all this I prefer today more than ever, to play a House-set which features a bit of everything what this music offers to the DJ, the crowd and to all of our lifestyles.

Apart from being really up to date with fresh Electronica, it could even include anything from Old Skool New Wave/Electro or some Vintage Rare-Groove/Jazz-Funk or Disco classics, if the audience is potentially open-minded. So speaking of me nowadays would probably sound like this:

Sugar Caine aka Bionik Phunk plays various styles of Electronica, crossing numerous genres from Funky to Progressive House, Electro, Funky Breaks and Deep and Dark Tribal sounds. His fusion of sound always keeps crowds on the dancefloor whether they are jumping about going crazy or stomping down to the groove !

But in the end I simply dislike to be categorised as someone who is known for just one thing, when variety, diversity and abillity to learn is more likely my way ! Times change, crowds vary and adapting within the music that I like is what I find easy to do !
